Imperial Theatre, West 45th Street - 1926
The historic Imperial Theatre at 249 West 45th Street in New York City. The theater is showing Oh, Kay! a musical with music by George Gershwin, lyrics by Ira Gershwin, and a book by Guy Bolton and P. G. Wodehouse. It opened at the Imperial in 1926.
The Shubert brothers conceived of the Imperial Theatre as a home to musical theatre hits. It was designed by Herbert J. Krapp and opened on Christmas Eve, 1923, with the musical Mary Jane McKane.
The old Klaw Theatre is on the left at 251–257 West 45th Street. It was built in 1921 for producer Marcus Klaw and demolished in 1954. The Music Box Theatre at 239 W 45th St. is on the right. It opened in 1921 and is still standing on the site.
Today, this section of West 45th Street, west of Times Square between 7th and 8th avenues is home of others theaters, like Booth Theatre, Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (former Plymouth Theatre), Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre and John Golden Theatre.
