The Lost View of New York
The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, in Manhattan, was one of the most photographed views of the United States. Completed in 1973, it was the world's highest construction of that time. The topping out of the North Tower (417 m) took place on December 23, 1970.
On 11th of September 2001, two commercial flights, hijacked by terrorists, hit the Twin Towers. The two tower had suffered a complete structural collapse in 104 minutes, after the first attack. In the September 11 attacks, about 2,800 people died and 1796 were not found.
Construction of the new One World Trade Center building began in 2006, it topped out in May 2013 and it opened on November 3, 2014 on the same site with the same height as the Twin Towers. It is the tallest building in the United States. The One World Observatory opened in May 2015.
