The old five-story building at 29 Broadway housed the Havana Steamship Office, among other offices. It was the office of the Ship Timber Bending Co. in 1855. It was the headquarters of the Spanish Consul-General until April 28, 1880 and office of the Richmond and Danville Railroad in 1888.
The Columbia Building was erected on the site in 1890-1891. It occupied the entire block front on north side of Morris Street, between Broadway and Trinity Place. Today the site is occupied by the 30-story office building at 29 Broadway, completed in 1931.
