West Side Broadway, Morris to Rector Streets - 19th Century

Lower Broadway 19th CenturyThis page shows images related to buildings on west side of Broadway, between Morris Street and Rector Street (next to Trinity Church), in the 19th Century. Exchange Alley is in the middle of this section.

In the early 19th century, this section was a fashionable residential street, replaced by commercial buildings in the following decades. Some buildings were destroyed in the Great Fire of 1945. Notable buildings of the time includes the Columbia Building, on the northwest corner of Morris St., Aldrich Court, the old temple of Grace Church, site occupied by the Empire Building completed in 1898, and historic mansions.
