Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Projected Bridge over the East River - 1870

Construction of the bridge started on January 3 (actual labor), 1870. Twenty persons were killed or disabled during the thirteen years which it took to build the bridge. It was opened in My 24, 1883.
The Post Office building, on the City Hall Park, was completed in 1880, but is shown completed here.
