Panoramic View of Central Park at 59th Street - 1901
Panoramic view, in two photographs (second part is on the left, showing the New York Athletic Club building, at the eastern corner of Sixth Avenue and 59th Street) of Fifty-Ninth Street from Sixth Avenue to Fifth Avenue, seen from Central Park. Hotel Netherland and Hotel Savoy is in the distance. Photos from the Detroit Publishing Company photograph collection (Library of Congress), copyrighted in 1901. Enlargement of the lake below.
Today, visitors on the 59th Street Tree Walk can see many species of trees, each with a unique identity. Signs on tree trunks or nearby on the ground teach visitors about the trees along the path. This tour is roughly a mile and should take about 60 minutes to complete. The Pond is a centerpiece of a serene landscape, just steps from the bustle of Fifth Avenue. More: Map of Central Park ►
