New York City Hall and Park Row - 1830
Street scene showing City Hall Park on the left and Park Row (officially Chatham Street until 1886), on the right. Watercolor by John William Hill (1812-1879), 1830. The spire of Brick Church and Park Theatre, a playhouse located at 21–25 Park Row, are on the right. Source: I. N. Phelps Stokes Collection of American Historical Prints, New York Public Library.
In the second half of 19th century Park Row was also called Newspaper Row due to a great number of newspaper headquarters in the place, like the New York Times, the Sun, New York Tribune, the World and others.
