Flatiron Building - 1904
Original title: The famous "Flatiron" Building - most remarkable commercial building in the world, New York. Published by Underwood & Underwood, Publishers, 1904 (photo originally in stereographic form). Source: Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division.
The building was completed in 1902. Its facade is divided vertically into three sections, similarly to the components of a classical column. The three-story base is clad with limestone, while the upper stories are clad with glazed terracotta.
The Sohmer Piano Building, on the right, at 170 Fifth Avenue, corner of Wes 22nd St., with a two-story octagonal cupola, was completed in the late 19th century.
