Grand Hotel 1913
The Grand Hotel on Broadway, corner of West 31st Street in 1913. The façade on Broadway is on the right. The façade on W 31st St. is on the left, photo also shows the 12-story Annex of the hotel. Photographs by Morris Rosenfeld (1884-1968) from Mystic Seaport, Rosenfeld Collection / NYPL.
The sign advertising rooms $1 up (later $1.50) shows that, at this time, it was a cheap hotel. Around 1913 / 1914, the New Grand Hotel (name of the old Grand Hotel used since around 1904) changed to Manger Grand Hotel. Later it became Milner Hotel, Hadson Hotel and Clark Apartments, in sequence. In 1979, the building was designated as a landmark by the Landmarks Preservation Commission of the City of New York.
