Fifth Avenue and Broadway Junction at Madison Square - between 1893 and 1896

 

The old Worth House, which was Madison Square Bank Building from 1888 to 1893, is behind the Worth Monument, dedicated in 1857 (enlargement below). Madison Square is on the right. The St. James Hotel on Broadway, southwest corner of 26th Street was demolished in 1896.

The Marble Collegiate Church is in the distance on 5th Avenue at 29th St. The old Waldorf Hotel, completed in 1893, is seen on the west side of Fifth Avenue, on the northwest corner of 33rd Street. The adjoining Hotel Astoria, completed in 1897, is not seen in this photo.
