Fifth Avenue and Broadway at Madison Square - about 1906
Fifth Avenue and Broadway at Madison Square, photographed by Wurts Brothers, looking north from Flatiron Building, at 23rd Street. This photo is dated between 1905, when the Broztell Hotel opened, seen on the right at 27th Street, and 1906, when the Brunswick Building opened at 225 Fifth Avenue (not in this photo). It was completed in 1907 (now the Grand Madison). Source: New York Public Library. Enlargement of the center is below.
The Fifth Avenue Hotel, on the left, opened in 1859 and was demolished in 1908. The Madison Square Park is on right. The Worth Monument, dedicated in 1857, and the old Worth House behind it (with large Berlitz School of Languages sign) are in the center. The New York Times Building, completed in 1904, is seen in the distance at Broadway.
