Hoffman House in the late 1880s

Hoffman House on Broadway and its two annexes on West 25th Street seen from 5th Avenue, about the late 1880s. Undated photo, unknown photographer. Source: Photographic views of New York City, from the collections of the New York Public Library.

Worth Monument is on the left. Hoffman House comprised three buildings in this view. The original Hoffman House at 1111 Broadway, on the left, opened in 1864. The annex, on the corner of 25th Street, was an old mansion which joined the hotel in 1870. The eight-story second annex on 25th Street, on the right (partially seen) was completed in 1885. Hoffman House also included two houses on West 24th Street, added in 1869. The Albemarle Hotel is to the left.

Photograph taken between 1885 and about 1890, when the overhead wires were buried.
