Nassau Street was laid out in the 17th century. In the 18th century the Middle Dutch Church and the Brick Church were erected. In the 19th century, it developed as a business street, with several stores and office buildings, beginning in Wall Street and ended at the Printing House Square.
The utility poles and overhead wires were removed by 1890.
