This Post Office at Nassau Street was established in 1845 in the premises that formerly housed the Middle Dutch Church on the city block bounded by Liberty Street (tower side), Nassau St. (lateral) and Cedar Street (rear and box delivery side).
The Dutch temple was originally completed in 1731 and altered in 1764. The U.S. Government leased the building in 1844 and bought the property in 1860. The Post Office moved to the new building at the City Hall Park in 1875. The old building was sold in 1882 and demolished in the same year.
