On the rainy day of October 21, 1944, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, approaching an election for an historic fourth term, toured through 51 miles in the streets of the City of New York City in a large motorcade.

Hotel Astor, on the left, located between West 44th Street and W 45th Street, opened in 1904, the same year of the Times Building. The Paramount Building, on the left, was completed in 1926. It was the headquarters of Paramount Pictures and housed the Paramount Theatre.
