Photo shows the Memorial Arch from Washington Square, looking north on 5th Avenue. It was built on white marble, between 1890 and 1892, and dedicated in 1895. The original arch was erected on wood, a temporary triumphal arch, for centennial celebration of the inauguration of George Washington, on April 29, 1889.
