On December 4, 1898, a fire destroyed the building at 258 Broadway, and severely damaged its neighbors to the south. The Roger Peet Building, a New York City landmark, here under construction, was erected in 1899 on the place, corner of Warren Street, site of the old Mason's Arms Tavern of Samuel Fraunces in the 18th century.
