Empire State Building, Midtown NYC - 1936
Looking northwest from the intersection of Broadway and 6th Avenue, in Midtown Manhattan, with the Empire State Building in the center. Photo dated December 8, 1936, Source: Records of the Army Air Forces, U.S. National Archives and Records Administration.
The Empire State Building was officially completed in 1931 and was the world's tallest building until 1970. It is situated on the west side of Fifth Avenue, between West 33rd and West 34th streets. Part of the site was occupied by the old Waldorf–Astoria Hotel (a new Waldorf Astoria was erected at 301 Park Avenue, seen in the image above).
The Rockefeller Center in on the left and the Art Deco Chrysler Building at Lexington Avenue is on the right. The East River and Roosevelt Island are on the top right side of the picture.
