Hotel Chelsea, West Twenty-Third Street

Hotel Chelsea at 222 West Twenty-third Street. Photograph from the New-York Historical Society (J.P. Day), about 1908. It was one 0f the pioneer apartment houses in New York City, constructed from 1883 to 1885. The building was designated a New York City landmark in 1966 and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

The old Westminster Church is on the left. In 1926, it was replaced by the Hotel Carteret, an apartment building at number 208, adjoining The Chelsea.
