The Knickerbocker Hotel opened on October 23, 1906. It was erected on the site of the old St. Cloud Hotel. The Beaux-Arts façade remain practically unchanged, except for the first two floors. The portico at 42nd Street was removed in 1911. The hotel was closed in 1920 and the structure was transformed into an office building. Knickerbocker Hotel reopened in 2015.
Enlargement of buildings on 42nd Street. The building with a clock on the top was the headquarters of the C.C. Shayne Fur Company, at 124 and 126 West 42nd Street. The company owned by Christopher Columbus Shayne was the largest retail fur establishment in the United States.
