The Empire State Building is seen in the distance, located on Fifth Avenue, between West 33rd Street and 34th St.
The 16-story Bank of the Metropolis building, on the left, at 31 Union Square West, was designed by Bruce Price and built in 1902-1903. It was designated a NYC landmark in 1988.
The 20-story Guardian Life Insurance building, now W New York Union Square, at 201 Park Avenue South (on the right), was completed in 1911 for the headquarters of the Germania Life Insurance Company. It was designated a NYC landmark in 1988 and was converted into a hotel in 2000.
