Kixby
The Kixby is a hotel located at 45 West 35th Street, between 5th and 6th avenues, near Herald Square, Midtown Manhattan. The hotel opened for the first time in 1902 as Collingwood Hotel with about 250 rooms, later Hotel Metro. By 2019 it became Kixby.
This 12-story building was developed by Robert F. Spalding, as an apartment hotel, constructed from 1900 to April 1902. It opened its doors on May 1. The building was designed by architect Harry B. Mulliken, with Beaux Arts façade, with carved limestone.
The hotel was leased for 21 years by William F. Bang, who managed the hotel, but he went bankrupt in months. The hotel was bought by the Hotel Collingwood Company, owned by the brothers Joseph T. and Israel Cohen. In February 1909, Mrs. Eliza Guggenheimer, widow of Randolph Guggenheimer, purchased the hotel. In 1913, the manager of the hotel, Seth H. Moseley, bought the hotel. In the following yeras, the hotel was sold several times. By 2000, the hotel was renovated and renamed Hotel Metro.
In 2019 the hotel became the Kixby, with 195 guest rooms and suites. The facilities include the Black Tap Burgers & Craft Beer, Lot 15 Bar & Lounge, the Lookup Rooftop Bar, Kixby's Continental Breakfast, Lookup Rooftop Bar and fitness center.
The hotel is in the middle of Manhattan’s Fashion Center, steps away from the Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, Macy’s, Jacob Javits Convention Center, Grand Central Station, Broadway theaters, and shopping centers.
