Andaz 5th Avenue
The Andaz 5th Avenue is located at 485 5th Avenue and East 41st Street, across from the New York Public Library. The Andaz opened in 2010 and is part of the Hyatt family.
The 14-story hotel is housed in a building erected in 1916. It was originally designed by Townsend, Steinle & Haskel as a 10-story department store for Rogers, Peet & Co. The building is L-shaped, with a wing extending north to 42nd Street. In the 1980s the building became the Tommy Hilfiger global headquarters. In 2008, the building was adapted into a 104-apartment residential building, with four new modernist floors by Handel Architects added to the top, slightly recessed, and faced in pre-cast stone and glass.
In 2010 it was converted to a hotel by Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, with 184 guest rooms, including 36 suites, designed by Tony Chi. It opened opened in July 2010. The Andaz Wall Street opened in January, the same year.
The hotel also include restaurant, fitness center, meeting facilities, the Bar Downstairs and Kitchen, Cafe Metro in the ground floor and more. Andaz 5th Avenue is near Bryant Park, Grand Central Station, Empire State Building, Times Square and the Broadway theaters.
