Ned NoMad
The Ned NoMad is a hotel located at 1170 Broadway, southeast corner of West 28th Street, in the NoMad neighborhood of Manhattan. It opened for the first time in 1903 as an office building. Today it is owned by Sydell Group. The building is a New York City landmark.
Caroline H. Johnston bought the properties around the corner of Broadway and West 28th Street from 1897 to 1900. The 12-story Beaux-Arts building was designed by the architectural firm of Schickel & Ditmars and named after its owner: the Johnston Building.
The building was converted into a boutique hotel, from 2008 to 2012, by the Sydell Group, with interiors designed by Jacques Garcia. The old Johnston Building opened as the NoMad Hotel in 2012. The hotel closed in March 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Soho House group took over the hotel, it was renamed the Ned NoMad and reopened in 2022, with 167 bedrooms and suites. The hotel is in part a members’ club, the Little Ned, a 1920’s style bar, Ned’s Club Downstairs as well as Ned’s Club Upstairs rooftop. It also houses the Cecconi’s, a classic Italian restaurant in the ground floor.
