Trump International Hotel
The Trump International Hotel & Tower, One Central Park West, originally the Gulf and Western Building, is located at 15 Columbus Circle, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It opened in April 1996.
The 44-story skyscraper was originally designed by Thomas E. Stanley as an office building, headquarters of Gulf and Western Industries. The building originally had an aluminum-and-marble façade and was surrounded by a public plaza on Broadway and Central Park West. It was completed in 1970 with the Paramount Theater in the basement.
In March 1994, a joint venture composed of the General Electric Pension Fund, Galbreath Company, and developer Donald Trump announced they would redevelop the office tower into an apartment house. The renovation, which began in 1995, was designed by Philip Johnson and Costas Kondylis. The Trump International Hotel and Tower opened for business in April 1996. The hotel, with 168 suits, occupied the lower 17 floors. The 28 remaining floors contained 166 luxury condominium apartments. Separate entrances and lobbies will open onto Central Park West beneath a gilded canopy.
The hotel facilities include the Trump Spa, fitness center, restaurants, bar, meeting rooms and much more. The Central Park is just across the street and the hotel is just steps from the Columbus Circle and Lincoln Center.
