Flatiron Building in New York - about 1908

The Flat Iron Building, Broadway and Fifth Avenue, in New York City. Photo published by Detroit Publishing Co. ca. 1908. Source: Library of Congress.

On the right, a brand new building (200 5th Ave., still there), completed in 1909 on the site of the old Fifth Avenue Hotel, between West 23rd and West 24th streets, facing Madison Square.

The seven-story Hotel Bartholdi, 956 Broadway at 23rd Street, is on the left. It was named after French artist Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi, sculptor of the Statue of Liberty. It opened in 1885 and closed in 1912. The building was demolished after a fire in 1966.
