The New York Athletic Club building is on the right, corner of 7th Ave. The following buildings are Essex House and Hampshire House (completed in 1938). In the distance, on the corner of Fifth Avenue, is the Sherry Netherland Hotel. Central Park forms the north site of this street.
This section of West 59th Street, between Columbus Circle and Grand Army Plaza, was renamed Central Park South in 1896.
In the first decades of the 20th century, there were several hotels on Central Park South, but most of them were completely or partially converted to condos or co-ops. In 1981, Donald Trump bought the Barbizon Plaza and a neighboring rental building at 100 Central Park South, they are now condos called Trump Parc and Trump Parc East.
