Parade on 59th Street - 1913
Photograph shows parade on 59th Street to Broadway, seen from Columbus Circle, before the unveiling ceremonies for the memorial to the battleship Maine, which had exploded in the harbor of Havana, Cuba, during the Spanish-American War of 1898. In 1912, the monument was placed at the Merchant’s Gate, entrance to Central Park in Columbus Circle, and dedicated on May 30, 1913. Hotel Netherland is in the distance. Photo by Bain News Service.
